Gastronomy meets Mycology & Medicinal benefits in the ultimate comfort foods.

Welcome to the world of fungus that promotes well being through nutrition, through supplementing your body and mind, or even using edible mushroom based products to help alleviate symptoms or illness or discomfort.

Our Name, MycoUmami is a combination of mycology, the study of mushrooms and Umami, the 5th sense of flavour. which is synonymous with mushrooms, and was first defined in the early 20th century in Japan.

Humans have been using Mushrooms and Fungi for thousands of years to alleviate illness and pain as well as for the pleasure that the subtle Umami flavouring of mushrooms. Fungi has offered huge benefits over the ages, and is the root of Penicillin and of the AntiBiotics that are in common use today. As with many other things the thousands of different types of fungus are at risk through de-forestation. If you are interested in learning more about how Fungi benefit the world today, I would definitely recommend the work of Paul Stamets.

A great introduction to his work is via his TEDTalk from 2008 entitled “6 ways Mushrooms can save the world.” Over 12 years on it is a compelling listen and well worth 17 minuted of your life.

“What can Mushrooms do for me?”

Whether you want the stimulating Umami flavouring of Oyster Mushrooms, often likened to chicken, or Lions mane with its subtle Lobster flavour, They can definitely liven up your mealtimes. If you want something more permanently beneficial, you might also want Lions mane for its ability to stimulate growth of neural pathways, or you might want a Reishi tincture to help bolster your immune system. Reishi consumers have also described reductions in stress and improved sleeping, I think the two things are linked!!
